I was in the St. Pete area and decided to stop by this incredibly imaginative artistic display I had heard about. It's more than just a house, you are stepping through a doorway into Whimzeyland.
Whimzeyland, also known as the Bowling Ball House, is only one of the properties owned by this artistic couple, but it is the most photographed and well known. What is truly mesmerizing is that you can see the brilliant innerworkings of their imagination come to life.
Across the street is another house, whose yard is covered with sculptures and a garage decorated with tiles and mirrors.
There was a little box in front of Whimzeyland that mentioned a second location they have called Safety Harbor Art and Music Center.
Normally, there are different art classes and live music. Unfortunately, that was occurring at this time, but I for sure will be back to check it out! They were doing work on the building next to them, where they had made the bottom floor the top floor!
Art holds a special place in my heart. To have this so accessible and viewable to the masses is so cool. Alva Vanderbilt did that with 5th Avenue. The architecture of the buildings, their houses, were meant to be a work of art for public viewing, not just a structure. This artistic style opens your eyes to pure wonderment and whimzey!
